]]>Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital that during a targeted enforcement stop on Tuesday, 44-year-old Mexican illegal immigrant Carlitos Ricardo Parias “weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee.”
“Fearing for the safety of the public and law enforcement,” McLaughlin said, “Our officers followed their training and fired defensive shots.”
Parias was shot in the elbow, and a U.S. Marshals Service officer was hit in the hand by a ricochet bullet. She said that both were stable and were transported to the nearest hospital to undergo non-life-threatening surgery.

Los Angeles local outlet ABC 7 reported that Parias is a well-known TikTok influencer who regularly follows ICE agents and goes by the moniker “Richard LA.” The outlet also reported that crowds gathered outside the hospital to protest the arrest as well as ICE.
According to McLaughlin, officers had previously encountered Parias, but he had escaped arrest. She said that he entered the country illegally at an unknown date and location and that he has a history of driving without a license, failing to prove financial responsibility, vehicle code violations and resisting arrest.
Now, DHS is pursuing criminal charges against Parias for assaulting, resisting or impeding federal law enforcement.
McLaughlin said that “these are the consequences of conduct and rhetoric by sanctuary politicians and activists who urge illegal aliens to resist arrest.”
“We are once again calling on sanctuary politicians, agitators, and the media to turn the temperature down and stop calling for violence and resistance against ICE law enforcement,” said McLaughlin.
She called out several Democrats who she said have held webinars to provide “resources and tips for how to openly defy ICE.” McLaughlin said that Democrats who have emboldened illegals to attempt to evade ICE include Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
TRUMP REVEALS HOW US MILITARY IS GOING TO CRACK DOWN ON DRUG SMUGGLERS ON LAND
A spokesperson for California Gov. Gavin Newsom shot back that it is “the federal government is unnecessarily endangering our law enforcement officers, who, even in this chaos, are trying to do their jobs lawfully and serve their communities.” (Mario Tama)
In response, a spokesperson for Newsom told Fox News Digital that “President Trump and [White House Homeland Security Advisor] Stephen Miller are trying to orchestrate the largest deportation effort in history, disregarding due process and even the safety of U.S. citizens and law enforcement.”
“These aggressive arrests are a PR campaign, using fear and force. They want to manufacture chaos, then blame others,” the spokesperson said, adding, “Trump is forcing the federal government to indiscriminately arrest U.S. citizens through racial profiling, vehicle ramming, and forced entry, then broadcasting these interactions online.”
The spokesperson flipped the script on the Trump administration, saying, “The federal government is unnecessarily endangering our law enforcement officers, who, even in this chaos, are trying to do their jobs lawfully and serve their communities. They are creating fear among hardworking families –our neighbors, colleagues, and friends – who now have a target on their backs because of this administration.”
“Immigration law can be enforced without a message ofterror,” the Newsom spokesperson said.
Fox News Digital also reached out to the offices of Ocasio-Cortez and Bass but did not immediately receive a response.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson also weighed in, telling Fox News Digital that “ICE Officers are facing a 1000% increase in assaults because of unhinged rhetoric from activists and Democrat politicians smearing heroic ICE officers.”

“Anyone who assaults or otherwise harms law enforcement officers will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Jackson, adding, “Democrats must stop siding with illegal aliens over American law enforcement.”

]]>Harjinder Singh allegedly crossed the southern border illegally in 2018 and is accused of causing an August crash in Fort Pierce, Florida, that killed three people.
Investigators with the Florida AG’s office learned Singh failed his CDL knowledge exam in Washington state 10 times between March 10, 2023, and May 5, 2023. They also learned he failed his air brakes knowledge exam twice.
The Washington company that trained Singh for his CDL attested that he could speak English, even though he struggled to speak it proficiently, the senior official said. Still, Washington issued Singh his first CDL, and California later granted him another.

Bodycam footage released in August shows Singh struggling with limited English after being pulled over for speeding in New Mexico a month earlier, a detail that has become a major focal point in the case.
The footage shows Singh being stopped by a New Mexico State Police officer July 3 for allegedly driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Singh appeared apologetic as he received a ticket. He communicated clearly at first, but after signing paperwork and preparing to leave, the officer struggled to understand him.

Officials investigating the wreck in Florida said Singh failed English and road sign tests. He’s accused of jackknifing his 18-wheeler during an illegal U-turn, causing a van to smash into the side of the semi, leaving three people dead.
Last week, the Florida AG’s office sued California and Washington in a Supreme Court filing to prevent both states from issuing CDLs to illegal immigrants. The lawsuit accuses the states of failing to comply with federal safety and immigration status requirements.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Oct. 15 that many big rig drivers fail to meet English language requirement, a problem his department is now targeting.
“I put states on notice this summer: Enforce the Trump Administration’s English language requirements or the checks stop coming,” Duffy said. “California is the only state in the nation that refuses to ensure big rig drivers can read our road signs and communicate with law enforcement. This is a fundamental safety issue that impacts you and your family on America’s road.”

The announcement followed the Trump administration’s decision to withhold more than $40 million in federal highway safety funds from California for failing to enforce federal English proficiency standards for truckers.

]]>That truck driver is accused of causing a freeway crash that resulted in three fatalities on Tuesday in California.
Newsom is blaming the federal government for the crash, arguing its policies ultimately allowed the suspect to receive a license. Duffy rejected that claim.
The dispute comes as the transportation secretary threatens to withhold millions in federal highway funds from California and expands a federal review into how non-citizens acquire state-issued licenses.

“Had Gavin followed our rules per DOT, this guy would have never been on the road. Three more people would be alive,” Duffy said Friday on “America Reports.”
The deadly crash occurred Tuesday on a Southern California freeway. Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old Indian national, allegedly drove a semitruck while under the influence, causing a multi-car pileup with three fatalities.

According to the Department of Transportation, California violated new federal rules by upgrading Singh’s non-domiciled CDL despite an emergency rule and compliance notice issued Sept. 26.
“If California had complied with the secretary’s emergency rule and prevented the upgrade of this individual’s driving privileges earlier this month, he would have never been able to get behind his big rig,” according to a department statement.
The rule was designed to restrict eligibility for noncitizen licenses and require states to verify applicants’ legal status.
BLUE STATE INVESTIGATES HOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER GOT LICENSE BEFORE DEADLY FLORIDA CRASH
California first issued Singh his CDL in June but upgraded it in mid-October, weeks after the new federal restrictions took effect, according to the Department of Transportation.
Newsom’s press office called the crash “tragic” but accused the Trump administration of trying to score “political points.”
“This is tragic, and as with every tragedy over the last ten months, Secretary Noem has ordered Secretary Duffy to look for every opportunity to manipulate the facts to score cheap political points,” his office wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“It’s nice to see Gavin tap-dance in a tweet, good for him,” he said.
“But the truth is we do set the guidelines by which licenses can be issued. We sent that guidance out. Gavin Newsom said, ‘I’m not going to follow it. I’m going to allow this foreigner to get an upgraded license.’ That was Gavin Newsom’s choice. The states issue commercial driver’s licenses. We give the guidance, they issue them.”
“California rules and regulations for commercial driver’s licensing are consistent with federal law,” Newsom’s office told Fox News Digital in part.
The California Transportation Agency posted on X: “MISINFORMATION ALERT: The state does not determine commercial driver’s license eligibility. The FEDERAL government approves and renews all FEDERAL employment authorization documents that allows individuals to work and obtain commercial driver’s licenses.”
